The Secret to Feeling Rich (Without Buying More)
We’re done letting ad executives write our wish lists. This summer, we reclaim luxury as a feeling—not a purchase.
Hi friends,
This week I found myself sitting on the porch, watching the light flicker through the trees, and I thought: this is luxury. Not the kind sold in stores, but the kind that only slowness reveals. I’ve been reading The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, and it’s reminded me that beauty—true, soul-level beauty—can’t be rushed.
It isn’t about owning more. It’s about noticing more.
So let’s make space this week to enjoy the little luxuries God has already placed around us.

I’ve been thinking a lot about consumerism and the constant temptation to buy, upgrade, and accumulate. But what if beauty isn’t something we chase or earn—it’s something we notice?
I love beautiful things. I love a well-made dress, a candlelit dinner, a linen curtain billowing in the breeze. But lately I’ve been asking myself: Is this about soaking in beauty, or trying to prove something?
Because there's a difference between having a beautiful home to feel peace… and having a beautiful home to get compliments.
There’s a difference between buying a dress that makes you feel like yourself… and buying a dress to post it online.
Luxury doesn’t have to be performative. It can be quiet, sacred, deeply personal.
It can be sitting on your porch with your hands wrapped around a warm mug.
READ: The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry
A deeply convicting and freeing book about stepping away from a culture of chaos and stepping into rest.
COOK: Caprese Melon Salad with Prosciutto and Mozzarella
A refreshing summer salad of sweet melon, juicy tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and salty prosciutto, drizzled with olive oil and fresh basil. Slow down and savor the freshness of summer.
July isn’t a month that asks for much—it simply offers.
It offers early sunrises and golden evenings.
It offers gardens heavy with fruit, the hum of bees, the slow sway of flowers in the breeze.
It offers warmth, stillness, and a chance to receive.
This is a season of abundance—not just in the fields or the farmer’s markets, but in the everyday magic we often rush past. And the only way to truly receive this abundance is to slow down enough to notice it.
It can be tempting to let the whole month fly by in a blur of events, heat, and distractions. But what if this month, you chose to stretch time by choosing tiny moments of stillness every single day?
This July, may you not just do summer—
May you receive it.

Garden Feature:
Lemon balm is thriving right now. Clip some and steep it in hot water for the most calming herbal tea. Bonus: it also deters mosquitoes if you rub it on your skin!
Home Feature:
Put out a fresh hand towel and a tiny bud vase in your guest bathroom (or just for yourself!). A soft, intentional detail that makes every day feel like a retreat.

What does true luxury mean to you, outside of anyone else’s opinion or perception?

Due to a recent illness, everyone is wanting me to travel, to GO SOMEWHERE, Like that is the essence you will miss… I am loving feeling well enough to sit in the sunrise, clip some lavender for a vase, swim unhurried and alone in pond, eat summer produce, drive country roads with the corn fields opening up around each bend. Savoring the luxury of life. Enjoyed your piece and heartily agree.
I totally resonated with the beginning of this post about consumerism, thank you for sharing! I too have been trying to re-asses my purchases of late and often notice I treat shopping as a boredom thing or find it can give me that dopamine hit I may have needed at the time but did I really need that new outfit?! Loved your post x
